The global smash hit show ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ deals with some dark subject matter.
But for TV marketing departments, the challenge to find different ways to cut through and arouse interest is tough no matter what the content of the show is.
SBS found a cost-effective way to cut through, they found the simple symbolism in the show - the uniform of the Handmaid’s. It’s the most powerfully unique component of the show that can be marketed. They then sent out teams of Handmaids onto the streets of major cities. On train stations, at bus stops, in shopping malls. It was a powerfully effective way to capture attention.
Finding the simple symbolism in your product or service is critical. It is the element that you can use to clearly demonstrate who you are or what you stand for.
The key is to be able to identify something that is both unique and interesting at the same time. It often comes through a process of asking your existing customers or people familiar with your brand what they identify you with. It could be a colour, a letter, an image or your product itself.
.When thinking of ideas of your own this year, think about symbolism. Find the simple symbolism in the product and service, then find the way to communicate it.
That wraps up our countdown of The Ideas of 2018. Thanks for following along!
